15 November 2019 - FARE participated to the IXth AFEM meeting in Büssang

The IXth congress of the Francophone Association of Microbial Ecology (AFEM) brought together microbiologists working in a wide range of environments and of organisms! This year, it was held in Büssang, in the Vosges Mountain in France, from November 5-8: an opportunity for FARE scientists to exchange ideas, results and tools with this community.

Ludovic Besaury, assistant professor at the AFERE Chair at FARE and Gwenaëlle Lashermes, INRA researcher at FARE, presented their work in the session "Ecological engineering and biotechnological applications". Ludovic presented a poster entitled "Bottom-up and top-down approaches to fractionate and valorize lignocellulose" while Gwenaëlle gave an oral presentation on "Dew retting of fiber-plants for industrial applications: modelling a biodegradation process".

The main topics discussed at this meeting were biotic interactions and the concept of the holobionte, biogeochemical cycles, the diversity and role of microorganisms in the environment, the impact of environmental disturbances, as well as adaptation, evolution and genomic plasticity. This congress made it possible to Ludovic and Gwenaëlle to deepen their knowledge in these different fields and to exchange with different scientists.
